Anthony and Margaret (Wearing) Hewartson emigrated from the Lancashire area of England to Herkimer Co., New York c. 1835. Anthony was a woodcutter, farmer and cotton mill worker.  He died in 1853.  Their children: Hannah, John F., William H. and Jane (all born England), George W., Robinson., James N., Delight and Henrietta.

In August 1862, George W., Robinson and James N. enlisted in the 121st New York Infantry; William H. enlisted in the 34th New York Infantry in June 1861, then the 2nd New York Artillery.  Robinson died in December 1862 from typhoid at White Oak Church, Va. George W. was shot in the stomach and died in May 1862 in a rebel prison.  William H. was wounded at Cold Harbor, Va.

Margaret received a dependent mother's  pension after George was killed. She died September 1883, survived by children John F., Hannah Champany, James N., William H., and Henrietta Ford.     (My thanks to Ray Huartson for sharing his research.)

John F. Huartson married Eliza Cummings in Herkimer Co., NY, where they had Sarah Jennie and William Robert.  In 1863 they went to Madison, Jefferson Co., IN, where George Edgar, John Frank, twins Develo and Delbert, and Mary Ella were born.  By 1880 they had migrated to Mason City, Cerro Gordo Co., IA, where they farmed.  John F. died in 1902, Eliza died in 1913.  They are both buried next to the grave of son Develo who died in 1884.
